Remotely managed supermarket fridge

In October attackers reached the controllers that run the fridges and freezers in hundreds of French supermarkets, among them Carrefour, Intermarché, Monoprix and Coopérative U shops, and turned the cold up to as much as 50 °C. Nothing was stolen and no ransom was asked; the food simply went in the bin. The controllers were online so maintenance firms could adjust them from afar. Someone did.
